Workshop 3, An introduction to Web Authoring.
A: OVERVIEW AND CONTEXT:
The internet has changed the world. Three years ago in 2002 there were an estimated 605.6 million people online. The figure will be significantly more now. The internet has changed the way we shop, the way we conduct business, the way we communicate with each-other. The ability to build yourself even a basic website will give you a great advantage and will allow you to communicate your message to a huge population of similarly 'connected' people. Every one of those 605.6 million people could be a potential client.
B: THE WORKSHOP:
Many people across the world are building their first website right now. The basic processes of web design are not difficult to learn and once picked up can be built upon almost endlessly. This workshop will introduce participants to the internet and to HTML, the language of the internet. Based around the industry leading web authoring environment 'Dreamweaver', the workshop will familiarise participants with the authoring environment and actual page creation using the Dreamweaver interface as well as some simple HTML mark-up.
The workshop will take participants right through the design process from initial concepts, to page building and finally publishing on the world wide web. The workshop will be taught at two levels; beginner and intermediate. The intermediate level will cover the basics of working with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) and will show how it's use can simplify web-design and make the designer's job much easier.
These workshops are oriented around individual needs and web design requirements. The workshops are focused on solving production problems and participants may therefore like to bring their own material to work with. Advice will be given concerning the application of the skills learnt on the workshop to individual professional practice.
